Komatsu Achieves Major Autonomous Milestones

Komatsu's FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) has been a significant development in the mining industry since its introduction in 2008. With a fleet of over 750 autonomous trucks worldwide, the system has moved more than 10 billion metric tons of material, with daily contributions exceeding 6 million metric tons. Notably, 10 of these trucks have surpassed 100 thousand autonomous hours, highlighting the system's durability and consistent performance.

The adoption of Komatsu's AHS has led to improvements in various operational metrics for customers, including enhanced safety, increased productivity, and reduced costs, say the company. The system's design aims to extend the life of critical components, such as tires and brakes, and lower maintenance requirements through more predictable and efficient fleet management. These factors contribute to the system's role in supporting more streamlined and cost-effective mining operations.

"Since paving the way with the first commercial autonomous haulage operation in the marketplace 17 years ago, Komatsu is proud to continue being an industry leader in autonomy. Our highly skilled AHS team comprises of application and technical experts, as well as training and support specialists who possess in-depth knowledge and expertise. In every engagement, we bring that expertise to the table to help our customers achieve all the value that FrontRunner can deliver to their operations." said Martin Cavassa, Business Development Manager, Autonomous Systems at Komatsu.
