Nokia - Industrial-Grade Private Wireless Network for Minera Centinela

The mining industry is seeing a massive growth spurt in adopting digital transformation strategies, one of which is implementing industrial-grade connectivity.

That is why Nokia and Antofagasta Minerals have deployed an industrial-grade private wireless network for Minera Centinela to support secure and reliable operations at this copper mine in Chile, and accelerate the mining group's digital transformation

The private 4.9G/LTE network will initially support operations, including an autonomous fleet of trucks, as well as provide reliable, high-capacity and low latency connectivity for sensors and vehicles.

It will support a wide array of operations as part of a five-year digitalisation plan which aims to transform the mining sector, while enabling safer and more efficient operations.

Antofagasta Minerals is one of the world's leading copper miners. Its Centinela open pit mine, is located approximately 1,350 kilometers north of Santiago at an important mining zone with sulfur and oxides.

Nokia currently has more than 420 private wireless enterprise customers globally, including over 35 mining customers in more than 60 mines.
